FBK Legal at MSLU School Moot Courts

01 April 2019

FBK Legal has supported the Moscow stage of the All-Russian Moot Court Competition for School Students named after the Prince of Oldenburg that was held at Kutafin Moscow State Law University (MSLU) with the assistance of the Department of Practical Jurisprudence. Elena Shigidina, Head of Practice at FBK Legal, judged one of the moot courts.

She said that it is a rather simple, efficient and mutually beneficial mechanism of cooperation among school students, university students and legal practitioners. “In my opinion, it is a great opportunity for boys and girls to understand what they will face in law universities and in their future professional lives. Each team has mentors, students of law universities as a rule, who actively participate in the preparation for moot courts and at the same time train their mentoring skills with their future young colleagues. And judges, legal practitioners, were happy to give advice though in the form of a moot court,” she said.

The competition that usually brings together students in grades 8 to 11 also involved younger sixth and seventh graders. Each school team was divided into two groups representing the plaintiff and the defendant. Each group participated in the main round one time and the overall result of the team depended on the total score of the both groups. The winners of this regional round (there are four winning teams in Moscow this time) will participate in the final All-Russian Moot Court Competition on 13-14 April 2019 in St. Petersburg.
