FBK Legal on Constitutional Rights and Pandemic
Alexander Ermolenko, a Partner of FBK Legal, has participated in a conference titled “Law and Modern Economy: New Challenges and Prospects” that was organised by St. Petersburg State University of Economics.
He spoke about constitutional rights in the new reality of COVID-19 and mentioned that the previous year caused a global crisis of the constitutional idea as such, and that countries with developed rights and freedoms suffered the most.
?During the pandemic, constitutional regulation did not work and gave way to less complicated administrative regulation. It is obvious that freedoms were seriously curtailed for the sake of safety. We plunged into a digital totalitarianism. Do we want to stay there? That’s the question we need to answer soon,? Alexander Ermolenko said.
The conference brought together leading scientists and professors of Russian universities, famous experts, public officials, lawyers and economists. Attendees discussed legal regulation of the economy amid the pandemic, new strategic areas of the country?s economic growth and drivers of economic progress in the digital environment.
