Pravo.ru: Interview with FBK Legal Partner Eduard Giulbasarov

23 January 2026

For Eduard Giulbasarov, tax disputes are more than just legal proceedings—they are the moment of truth in advisory work: ‘Tax consulting often leaves a sense of incompleteness. In a dispute, however, the matter is settled once and for all: you are either right or wrong’. It is here that the strength of a legal position is tested and conflicts are ultimately resolved. This area forms the core of his professional focus: Eduard began his career in tax litigation, which still remains a central pillar of FBK Legal’s practice.

In 2025, under his leadership, FBK Legal launched a new customs practice. It took it a year to secure a position in the second group of the Pravo-300 ranking. The practice team has already won several cases that initially seemed hopeless. Eduard Giulbasarov argues that customs law is a natural extension of tax expertise: both fields lie at the intersection of law and economics, and a deep understanding of taxation enables the firm to offer clients comprehensive, value-driven solutions.

Eduard is also confident that in the age of AI, the key competitive edge lies the ability to see the economic realities behind the law and take full responsibility for every recommendation. Looking ahead,   he anticipates further tightening of tax legislation, strengthened regulatory scrutiny, and the emergence of a Digital Tax Code, whose impact on current and future tax legal relations has yet to be fully understood.
